Lia's case is introduced through the description of a search for paternal support in the patient's life course, and how this changes over time. Through this commentary on the clinical case, I would like to try to broaden my view of Lia's search and define a more general need for recognition of one's own experiences and choices. Under this umbrella we can certainly include the father figure, but we can widen to include also a broader self-authorisation that seems to pass through recognition by the other. [...]
