The interesting work of Manlio Iofrida, starts from a review of the works of infant research that have contributed to crumbling the ancient subject-object separation, replacing the old solipsism with a notion of the subject rooted in the concept of relationality. This notion comes from Iofrida and is traced back to some philosophical antecedents. Iofrida then faces the criticism that this relational model of the subject has aroused. In particular, he deals with the need to formulate a new notion of freedom connected to the new systemic notion of subjectivity. In this commentary I will focus on some recent contributions of cognitive neurosciences that in my opinion are consonant with many elements of the new model of subjectivity discussed by Iofrida.
