The theoretical individualistic and intrapsychic vision that historically structured the intervention on the couple is juxtaposed with a presentation of the couple as a loving couple. In the couple, that is, the interaction with which the I-subject becomes himself through the other is righteous, facilitated and favoured by love. Then the law of functionality is presented, which has nothing to do with projection or introjection or projective identification. Functionality is not only a reading key for all relationships, but it also enlightens and determines the constitution of falling in love, the everyday life together and the inevitable crises that accompany the evolution of the couple. Some clinical examples, taken from the experience of the psychoanalytic intervention of the couple, accompany the theoretical exposition. The couple, alone or with the help, when necessary, of the psychoanalytic intervention, is an instrument for the growth of the I-subject: "I am you and you are me".
