It is proposed a balance sheet of the main epistemological, theoretical and clinical acquisitions that within psychoanalysis the authors who define themselves and are defined as relational have given us in the last thirty years. Starting from the recognition of the extraordinarily innovative and rich character of this set of new knowledge, sensibilities and beliefs, the need to go further in this path of change along three main lines is argued: a) the construction and sharing of a general theory of the mind in relation that provides an explanation of how the subject psychologically constructs the relationship with the context in multiple ways and on multiple levels, b) the transition from bipersonal to multi-personal psychology, considering the relationship between two people always permeated by a multiplicity of conversational partners and identifying the typical family configurations that can lead to suffering, c) elaborating a theory of technique consistent with the epistemology and theory of mind in this context chosen, where psychotherapeutic techniques already used for a long time can take new meaning and be created new, more useful and relevant with the new theoretical frame. The proposed challenge is that of a joint work among the relationalists of the main clinical approaches, guided by the need for an increasingly conscious assumption of professional responsibility in the choices we make daily in our relationships with patients.
