Surgical Skill in a Nutshell
This section has an educational purpose. It should be structured in the form of a short report.
Contributing authors should present, in a concise way, a surgical technique adopted to treat a given cutaneous lesion discussing advantages compared with alternative procedures. The piece should be no longer than 400 words and with no more than three authors.
The contributions should be organized according to the following format.
Title: Starting with the statement: -How would you “treat” or “remove” this “cutaneous lesion” or “specification of the site and type of the lesion (not the diagnosis)” – The statement should be followed by a short specification of the technique adopted, e.g., “rhombic transposition flap”.
The case: this part of the paper should start with a picture of the specific lesion to treat followed by a short presentation of the case: age, sex of the patient, relevant clinical information.
Our choice: here the technique adopted is briefly presented and illustrated with up to 4 sequential pictures, e.g., from the design of a flap to the incision and to the closure of the defect.
Comment: in this part of the paper, a more detailed description of the technique adopted is provided with the help of a drawing or a picture and alternative options are briefly discussed.
The outcome: in this part up to three pictures of the final outcome of the procedure are presented specifying the timing of the pictures
References: up to five relevant papers dealing with the clinical problem and the technique adopted are allowed.
