Waste Recycling Research is an Open Access, online-only journal aiming to provide a forum for communication and introduce sustainable technology developments among the world's scientific and technological communities, scientists and engineers. This journal intends to be of interest and unique to researchers and practitioners in the academic, industrial and governmental sectors. All original research contributions of significant value in all areas of discipline related to waste recycling, waste management, landfilling, urban mining, domestic wastes, solid wastes, industrial wastes and waste conversion are welcome. Waste Recycling Research also aims to create a dialog for the development and progress of scientific researches dealing with waste bioconversion and the related fields of biological treatment which may broaden the avenue for additional research scientists to communicate the latest findings within the field. Waste Recycling Research will publish authoritative papers on theoretical and experimental researches and advanced applications embodying the results of extensive field, plant, laboratory or theoretical investigation or new interpretations of existing problems.

Announcement of closure

Waste Recycling Research is no longer open to new submissions. All papers that have been published will be permanently accessible under the terms of open access, at: https://www.pagepress.org/technology/index.php/wrr/issue/archive.

PAGEPress would like to thank the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Ghasem Najafpour, and the Editorial Board for all their efforts over the past years.

Unfortunately, the number of authors in this field contributing to the journal was not as high as expected.

Packaging waste reduction in construction sites: eco-redesign of cardboard boxes
https://www.pagepress.org/technology/wrr/article/view/6
Packaging waste is a major contributor to construction waste, and cardboard is mainly generated during the electricity works. Of the environmental impacts caused by a product, 80% is defined during the design stage, including the impact of the packaging needed to deliver that product on site. This work proposes some strategies to reduce the packaging waste associated with two types of cardboard boxes for electric sockets, and evaluates the potential effects of these strategies. The comparison between the waste performance was based on an indicator defined by the Spanish Royal Decree for packaging and packaging waste, and the research performed on ecoredesign in other sectors was considered as the reference scenario to suggest some strategies to optimize the cardboard boxes. Although the results of the comparison do not show a big difference, together with the incorporation of some changes on the design they could help achieve some important savings for manufacturers, both environmental and economical.

Estrogenic compounds, an emerging aquatic pollutant: an overview of their measurement and treatment methods
https://www.pagepress.org/technology/wrr/article/view/24
Estrogens are hormonal secretions of humans and animals. Their natural degradation cycle is disrupted when the populations of both humans and livestock increases at a tremendous rate, increasing the amount of estrogen released into water bodies. Pollution of estrogenic compounds has caught the attention of researchers as the slight increase of estrogens in the water bodies has significant impact on the aquatic system. In this review, we compare various estrogenic compound analysis methods, identify sources and levels of estrogenic hormonal secretion pollution in surface as well as sewage waste waters and discuss various treatment technologies used to remove estrogenic compounds. We found that the use of different analysis methods hinders an accurate comparison of data. A comprehensive review is conducted on diverse removal technologies, identifying their advantages and disadvantages, followed by recommendations on strategies to deal with estrogenic pollution in water bodies.
