This review essay focuses on three recent books on 20th century political philosopher Leo Strauss which stand out for their comprehensiveness, significance and originality: Una filosofia in esilio. Vita e pensiero di Leo Strauss (Roma, Carocci, 2021) by Carlo Altini, Leo Strauss tra Husserl e Heidegger. Filosofia pratica e fenomenologia (Pisa, Edizioni ETS, 2018) by Pierpaolo Ciccarelli, and Leo Strauss. An Introduction (Cambridge, Polity Press, 2021) by Neil G. Robertson. By taking into account these works, the essay addresses a vast array of themes which lie at the core of Strauss’s perspective, including his crucial understanding of the epistemological foundations of political philosophy itself. For each book reviewed, after a concise introduction of its main arguments, the most relevant critical questions they prompt are raised and discussed.
