The tragedy of Aldo Moro (1978) marks a watersheld in Italian history but does not allow excessive simplifications. Moro was a central figure in Italy in the 1970s precisely because he knew how to lead historical processes, starting with the relations with the PCI, being aware that the political system risked to be paralysed if it had not found a new dynamism. His death accelerated the decline of the country, despite the widespread economic well-being, and opened the way to the confused radicalization that marks our times in which historical memory has been lost.
