La tragedia di Aldo Moro (1978) segna un punto fermo nella storia italiana, ma non consente eccessive semplificazioni. Moro è stato una figura centrale in Italia negli anni Settanta proprio perchè ha saputo guidare i processi storici, a partire dai rapporti con il Pci, nella consapevolezza che il sistema politico rischiava di rimanere paralizzato se non avesse trovato un nuovo dinamismo. La sua morte ha accelerato il declino del Paese, nonostante il diffuso benessere economico, e ha aperto la strada alla confusa radicalizzazione che segna i nostri tempi in cui si è persa la memoria storica.
