Background: Among the many professional figures who participate in the complex and articulated process of harvesting and transplanting organs and tissues, the nursing figure is increasingly present. Every year the Piedmont Region transmits to the individual hospitals the objectives regarding donations and transplants. The goal is to create a business that appropriately manages the corneal donation process. Methods. In November 2020, the Hospital appointed the Nurse Expert in Procurement; among its functions and activities stand out the awareness and training of the staff of the inpatient departments on the subject of corneal donation. Results: The training was started in the various departments through group meetings; in addition, a Company Validity Document (DVA 109/21) was released to mark the procedures of the process by standardizing and simplifying the procedures. Conclusions: The nursing figure becomes more and more present in donation and transplantation. The Nurse Expert in Procurement, thanks to the experience and skills acquired, manages the entire procurement process of organs and tissues, collaborating with the coordination group.
