Objectives: The association between exposure to asbestos and damage to health has long been recognized, but currently the ban of asbestos is not extended globally. The report illustrates the world situation and related issues. Methodology: Through an analysis of the bibliography, we extrapolated data useful for providing an exhaustive idea of the distribution of the use of asbestos and for the legislation. Results: There is a gap between countries that have adhered to the asbestos ban and countries that still use it. The focus shifts to the latter, where the peak of maximum incidence of pathologies asbestos-related will occur in the coming decades. Conclusions: Although legislative efforts have been made to stem this epidemiological disaster, they are insufficient in most countries.
