At the end of the passing year 2010 I would like to take a moment to thank all of the contributors and editors of the journal Alternative Medicine Studies. Over the past months since its inception in August 2010 a number of well written manuscripts have been submitted and published in the journal. We strive to increase our efforts and encourage researchers and scientists to consider submitting their manuscript to the journal.
Just in the past years, an increasing interest in the area of CAM highlights the importance of the field. Traditional practices and medicines used for centuries can either be directly and successfully used as valuable therapeutics or provide medical research with new lead structures and mechanisms of action for the treatment of a number of diseases. An important factor that drives the recognition and transition of CAM as valuable additions or effective alternatives to current medical practice is the underlying evidence. Well-designed preclinical cell-based or animal models as well as clinical studies adhering to good clinical practice (GCP) guidelines are the basis for scientific evaluation and broader approval of CAM therapies – and not only as a fallback position for patients who could not be helped with current practices.
With CAM use on the rise around the world and an increasing number of well-designed studies providing solid preclinical and clinical evidence for its effectiveness, the journal Alternative Medicine Studies strives to provide researchers with the opportunity to publish their results and make them accessible to everybody. In the name of all members of the editorial board I would like to wish all readers of the journal Alternative Medicine Studies a prosperous and healthy New Year 2011.
With best regards.
